THRONE OF SPAIN.
A LEGITIMIST MANIFESTO. DON JAIME COMES FORWARD PARIS. May 1. A bomb has been thrown at the Spanish Republican Government by a manifesto, in which Don Jaime, the Spanish Frctender, son of the famous Don Carlos, leader of the Carlisfc intrigues at the end of last century, declares that the Legitimists can henceforward be the only Monarchist party. Don Jaime urges the Monarchists to rally to combat Communism, and says the forthcoming elections will constitute a plebiscite, enabling Spain to choose between a republic and a monarchy on new Federal lines. "It is unjust," says the manifesto, "that monarchism should end because a king failed who did not know how to win the people's love. I will lead all patriots. I am ready to shed my blood in fighting Communism."
