THE EDUCATION BOARD.
AGE-LIMIT FOR TEACHERS. SUGGESTION CONTRADICTED. The opinion expressed in a resolution passed by tho {Auckland Education Conference that there was a growing tendency to impose a maximum age limit in calling applications for teaching positions was contradicted by Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, at a meeting yesterday. Mr. Burns said he could not understand how an impression that there was a growing tendency in that direction had been gained. There had been only one instance where tho age limit had been recognised in the manner indicated and that was under special circumstances. The resignation of Mr. J. P. McPhail from his position as board representative on tho Northcote Junior High School Committee was received, the question of a new appointment being deferred. _ The board adopted the recommendation of its advisory inspector to decline for the present the petition of Milforcl residents seeking the transfer of pupils of Standards 3 and 4 from Takapuna to Milford, or the establishment of a separate school.
