NOTES ON THE EOKM.

CASHIER WINS EASILY. KNOLLMERE'S PERFORMANCE. [FROM or It. OWN COIUtKSrONPF.NT. ) MARTON, Saturday. Cashier, making his first appearance over the battens, gave nothing else a chance in the Hurdles. He went to (ho front from the start and after leading into the homo stretch by half a dozen lengths finally beat Tunhridge by eight lengths, with a couple of lengths back to Easterly, who was running on. Wnrzone, another novice, was right up fourth, with Goldlike, who ran himself out after missing (he jump-out, following. Birkbeck received the worst of a lot of bumping running into the back and this put hill) out. of the contest. Manifesto won the Dash Hack easily after being off the course at the home turn. There was a great tussle for second, Chief Savage finishing fast 1o nose out Derry Belle and Hinewai. They were a poor lot. Grand Jury, an odds-oil favourite, was well beaten into third placo in the Winter Hack Spearform outstaying (he field after being last a furlong and a-half from home. Malahat, who made most of the running, hung on to get second and he may do better at Egmont. Aurora Borealis looked a bit big, but the race will improve her. She is Jo fake on the Egmont Steeplechase on Wednesday. Glenrossie failed to stay, but Jayson was rather unlucky. Black Duke for Auckland.

Black Duke toyed with his field in the Crofton Handicap. There was little between them at the home turn, Mount Shannon, Piiliu, Black Duke and Merry Dainon being the order. Didhani left his run a. bit late, but even so Black Duke was oil the bit when he passed the post half a length in front of the gallant Chopin, who met with some trouble in the straight. . Palm had every chance, but Merry Damon, having his first race for somo time, went exceedingly well, and was travelling us fast as the winner at. the post. Black Duke has never looked better. lie is to go to Hawera and will then come on to Auckland. Knollniere registered a good performance in the Welter Hack, but he was assisted by starting closer in than the marble said he should. He led. the outsider Cook to the straight and came on to beat him by a length and a-half, with Saltpot a similar distance away, after being prominent at the distance. Blacksmith ran a fair race into fourth placo, but Arrowhead disappointed after getting tlio jump-out. \ alueless failed badly for a well-backed candidate. Gold Cure Just Beaten. Only five runners, including a bracket, contested the Flying, but the race was the best finish of the day. Blue Paper, a hot favourite, and Gold Cure were together to the straight, whero the former retired. Gold Cure looked all over a winner, when Keddar put in a burst thnt carried him up to Gold Cure, and ho just got home by half a head. Juggle, a neck away, ran his best race for some time, and Blue Paper was last The latter was given no peaco by Gold Cure, who is right back to his best form. The easy going suited (he winner, who was the outsider of the field, and gave a return approaching double figures.

In spite of his penalty, Manifesto was a warm order for the final event, the Farewell Hack, but he failed to jump out with the field. Leisure, Nighlspeaker and Derry Bello led to the turn, where Zarene challenged Leisure, tho latter hanging on to win by a head. Nighlspeaker was u good third and Crimestor was fourth. Leisuro goes well for five furlongs and she may he seen out in a similar event on tl.o second day nt Ilawera. Zarene was not quite ready. C rim ester was drawn well out and he was outside three horses all the way, being wider out still on the home bend.
