VICTORIA LEAGUE.
The annual meeting of the Victoria "League Ever Ready Committee was held in the league rooms. Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane presided over a large attendance of members. The report" of the year's work and balance-sheet were read by the secretary and adopted. The chairman commented upon the splendid work done by the committee. Through helping at street collections, bazaars and organising bridge parties the sum of £3lO had been collected. Help had been given to various institutions, including the Cancer Campaign Committee, and two parties had been given at the Knox Home. The secretary reported that the fifth edition of the league cookery book is selling so well that arrangements are being made to publish a sixth edition. Through the sales of the cookery book for the year various institutions had benefited by £IOO. It was decided to hold a jumble sale early in April and to give some of the profits to the earthquake appeal fund. The chairman asked the members to do their utmost in collecting clothes and produce, etc., and so make the sale a success. Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, as convener of the Sewing Circle, reported that 700 new and second-hand garments had been sent to needy families living _in country districts. The parcels of clothing were chiefly sent to clergymen and schoolteachers for distribution. The following officers were re-elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane; hon. secretary, Mrs. L. S. Rickerby; assistant-hon. secretary, Miss E. Keesing.
