SWIMMING ITEMS.

NEARING END OF SEASON. TWO REMAINING CARNIVALS. The close of the present swimming season in Auckland is in sight. Two carnivals only have yet to be held before the curtain will be rung down on one of the most active and successful seasons the sport has ever experienced locally. The first carnival to take place will be that of the Ponsonby Club at the Shelly Beach Baths on Saturday afternoon. It was intended to decide the events as a club function, but as the programme was too heavy the club decided to hire the bath and make a nominal charge.

Following is the programem of events: —looyds. Ponsonby primary schools' championship, for Dr. Leys Memorial Cup; 100 yds. championship for girls under 14 attending the Ponsonby schools, 50yds. Hedlund Cup championship for girls under 12 attending the Ponsonby schools, 50yds. Ponsonby Club championship, 100 yds. Ponsonby Club championship, 50yds. Ponsonby Club ladies championship, ladies' diving championship of Auckland for Regent Cup, 50yds. club junior championship, final of club points championship, 100 yds. open handicap fpr ladies and men, 100 yds. open breaststroke handicap, 50yds. junior open handicap for boys and girls, Wai Wai Shield harbour race from Western Wharf to Shelly Beach Baths, diving and novelty events. , The final fixture will be the North Shore Club's carnival at the Tepid Baths next Tuesday evening. This will be the club's second carnival this season and the programme arranged is equally as attractive as the initial venture last month. The programme is as follows: —50yds. Auckland ladies' championship, 100 yds. ladies' Fuller Cup handicap, 33 l-3yds. tiny tots boys and girls' handicaps, 50yds. .junior boys' handicap, 50yds. junior Kills' handicap, 50yds. novice handicap, 50yds. inter-club handicap, 100 yds. breaststroke handicap, 200 yds. Grammar Schools' relay championship for Macindoe Cup, 220 yds. Batty Cup inter-club dual relay championship, 100 yds.' life-saving rescue championship, 200 yds. inter-business houses' relay race, 100 yds. club championship, 50yds. club breaststroke championship, 133 1-3, yds. rowing clubs' relay race, neat header, novelty events. Water polo activities in Auckland have reached a concluding stage, the second grade competition having been decided, while the first grade will be finalised at the North Shore Club's carnival on Tuesday evening. The Ponsonby Club has fared successfully, winning the lower grade championship, while its senior team will meet Waitemata A in the final.
