DECREASE IN BETTING.
INVESTMENTS AT RACES. HEAVY DECLINE AT ELLERSLIE. FIGURES FOR THREE MEETINGS.
A considerable decrease- in the totalisator investments is shown for the first three meetings held by the Auckland Racing Club this season. The total amount, of betting at Ellerr'uo for the spring, summer and autumn meetings was £464,377, compared with £616,361 10s for the three corresponding meetings during 1929-30, a decrease of £151,984 10s. Investments for the first three' meetings at Ellerslie in 1928-29 were £561,892. The turnover at the autumn meeting for tho current racing season, which concluded yesterday, showed a total decrease of £51,180 from the corresponding two days' racing of 1930. This autumn the receipts amounted to £102,317, as against £153,497 last Easter. At this season's spring meeting the total receipts at Ellerslie amounted to £79,502, a decrease of £30,926 10s from the corresponding meeting of the previous year. Race-goers invested £282,558 on the machine at Ellerslie over last Christmas and New Year, and this represents a decrease of £69,878 compared with the previous corresponding fixture. The following table shows the amounts invested on the totalisator at Ellerslie during the spring, summer and autumn meetings of this season, and at the corresponding meetings during the two preceding seasons: — 1030-31. 1029-30. 1928-29.
