PIONEER'S BIRTHDAY.
RESIDENT OF PAKURANGA. The stirring times of Auckland's early days, tempered now by the passing years, were recalled on Sunday, when Mr. John Udy, Pakuranga's oldest inhabitant, had his first callers to congratulate him oil his 91st birthday, which falls to-day. The visitors included Captain J. OorbettScott, of Epsom, who will shortly celebrate his 93rd birthday, and Mr. Udy's brother-in-law, Mr. T. Seccombe, of Otahuhu, who is now 84. Mr. Udv and Captain Corbett-Scott served together in the Maori War. Mr. Udy en joys remarkably good health and has the appearance of a much younger man. Ho was born at St. Braock, Cornwall. and came to New Zealand in 1859 in tho ship Excelsior.' After farming at Mount Eden and serving in the war he purchased a farm at Pakuranga, where he took up residence in 1871.
