RESPITE FOR RAILWAY.
K.IRIKOPUNI - TANGOWAHiNE. MINISTER'S DECISION PENDING. TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Saturday. The closing of the Public Works train ecrvice on the Kirikopuni-Tangowahine section of the railway is not yet to be put into effect. At the request of the Mayor of Dargaville, the Mayor of Whangarei and the chairman,of the Whangarei Harbour Board, telegraphed protests to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works, Hon. W, B. Taverner. The following reply has been received from Mr. Taverner: — "My approval to such action has never been sought, and whatever instructions have been issued in that connection have been issued without my approval. As a result of your telegrams I have instructed my department that the service is to be maintained pending my personal consideration of the position."
