POSTAL DISMISSALS.
further sixty men. TOTAL OF 200 IN SIX MONTHS. ALL "CASUAL" EMPLOYEES. About 60 "casual" employees of the Post and Telegraph Department in Auckland received notice of immediate dismissal on Thursday. Twenty of the men were engaged in the city and the remainder in various parts of the province. There are now no " casual" men employed by the department in Auckland, b total of about 200 men having been discharged within the past six months. Although termed " casual" workers many of the discharged men have been in the employment of the department for many years. They were engaged in labouring work, such as laying and repairing cables and telephone lines. It is understood the dismissals are due to the department restricting its outdoor operations and effecting economics wherever possible.
