OLD ENGLISH FAIR.

A most successful old English fair was held on Saturday at Akley, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. 11. Potter, of Valley Road, Mount Eden. The proceeds, which amounted to £75, were in aid of the Mount Eden branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary. The function was opened by Mrs. Alfred Kidd, president of the Auckland auxiliary, who spoke of the growing needs of the organisation and of the splendid work done by the Mount Eden branch. Associated with Mrs. Kidd on tlio platform were Mr. and Mrs. E. 11. Potter, Mayor and Mayoress of Mount Eden, and the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy and Mrs. Stallworthy. Bouquets of old English flowers were presented to Mrs. Kidd and Mrs. Stallworthy by littlo Pamela Familton. The stalls were set up under the trees in the garden, which mado a picturesque setting for the old-time frocks worn by the stall holders. The tearoom, which was in the basement of the house, was arranged as an old English tavern, with small flat vases and baskets of mixed English flowers on the tables. The attendants were suitably dressed for the period. A musical programme given under the trees in the afternoon was organised by Miss Rendell. An added attraction was the dancing of a number of children on the lawn. Prizes were given for decorated perambulators and cvcles, which were judged by Mrs. Kidd."

In the evening an Elizabethan entertainment was arranged, illustrative of the songs, dances and village life of the period, given by the W.E.A. under Mr. Richmond. The stall holders were as follows: Sweets, Mrs. Gordon Kelly, Mrs. Trcmain, Mrs. Roger and Miss Watt; tearoom, Mrs. Sheldon, Mrs. Gladding, Mrs. Whitehead, Mrs. Griffin and Miss Ball; jumble stall, Airs. Newcombe, Airs. Johnston and Airs. Sontorvillo; raffles, Mrs. Reynolds, Airs. Lugton and AJiss Williams; refreshments, Mrs. B. Morley and Aliss Gwen Bouisson ; flowers, Mrs. A. S. Priestley and Aliss Kathleen O'Connor; shooting gallery, Air. Whitehead; (ho cabbage patch, Mrs. Watson and Airs. Cary; dips, Airs. Cox and Airs. Carter; cakes, Mrs. P. Snell and Airs. Lange; plain and fancy work, Mrs. Alason, Airs. Clark, Airs. Devereaux and Airs. Whclan; produce, Mrs. Marks, Mrs. Turner and Airs. AlcPherson; mystery tent, Aliss Calder. Taking part in the dancing were:—June and Beverly Avery, Madge Lackland, Betty Alarshall, Nanco Mellatlie, Greta Alunroo and Catherine Tully.
