COLLAPSE IN CHURCH.
MINISTER'S SUDDEN DEATH.
SERMON JUST CONCLUDED.
WELL-KNOWN AUCKLANDER.
Just after finishing his sermon at the morning service yesterday Mr. W. Beattie, minister in charge of the Catholic Apostolic Church, Grafton Road, collapsed and died from heart failure. He closed hi 3 sermon with the words, " Even so, come Lord Jesus, come quickly," and. was moving from the pulpit toward the altar to commence the creed when he collapsed. Mr. Beattio had been suffering from heart trouble for some years, but his whole life was dominated by his work for the Church which he refused to give up. Mr. Bealtie's wife and his son, Mr. W. B. Beattie, were in the congregation at the time of his death.
Mr. Beattie, who was 67 years of age, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and came to New Zealand about 37 years ago. He was associated with Church work throughout his life and was minister in charge of the Auckland Catholic Apostolic Church for over 30 years. He was on the staff of the Auckland Weekly Newh for 16 years, and then started on hifi own account as a commercial photographer in Shortland Street, where his window of New Zealand scenic views was alway.i a source of. interest. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter.
