PENNANT COMPETITION.

ONEHUNGA V/INS FINAL.

CLOSE CONTEST WITH CARLTON.

The final of the Auckland Bowling Centre's pennant competition was played on Saturday between the winners of the two sections, Carlton and Onehunga, and, after a very close contest, the latter club won by 6J games to SJ. * On the Carlton green the Onehunga representatives won four or.ft of the six games, three of the wins being by a single poirit. Apart irom the number of team wins, the aggregate points, which. did not count, were very close, Onohunga having a margin of two with 110 to 10S. On tbo homo green the Onehunga players did not faro so well, only two and a-half wins coming their way, while the uggrogato points were ngainst them by 33, tho totalu being Carlton, 131; Onehunga, !38. There wa3 only one close win, and that was in tho Vella-Chapman game, in which tho fonner prevailed by one point.

Tho games at Onehunga did not finish as soon as those at Carllon, and consequently a great deal of interest centred in tho last games to be decided. Particularly was this so in the case of the Sutherland-Snedden fjame, which was actually the last to finish. As the aggregate points were against Onehunga if six wins ca.ch resulted, it was necessary for tho Onehunga team to avert a defeat in this particular game. Sutherland "killed" soveral heads when the position was all against him, and eventually made a tie of tho game, which was sufficient to place Onehunga one win ahead. The Onehunga players later assembled at the Carlton green and the president of the Auckland Ccntro, Mr. J. M. Thomson, presented the pennant to the winners. He took the opportunity, when congratulating tho winning club on its success, to point out how well the quota iiystem, as applied to the various competing clubs, worked out in actual practice.
