EMPIRE AIR ROUTES.
SPEEDIER SERVICES SOUGHT. EXTENSION TO WELLINGTON. LONDON, March 9. A deputation from the London Chamber of Commerce waited upon the Secretary of State for Air, Lord Amulree, and urged that the Indian air mail be made speedier and the charges reduced. The chamber also suggested the separation of the passenger and mail services to enable the mail service to be operated on a 24 hours' schedule and the establishment of Empire air mail services. This would involve a night-flying route to permit of a days schedule to Calcutta, 7£ days to Sydney, and days to Wellington. The chamber said it regretted the delay in the extension of the Imperial air route to Australia.
Lord Amulree replied that the Governments of Australia, India and the Straits Settlements were considering the proposed extension. Its inauguration depended on the financial support available.
