ENVOY VISITS AREA. TRAVEL BY AEROPLANE. CONDITIONS AT WAIROA. [ilY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Saturday. As a special envoy from the Mayor of Auckland, the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour arrived here to-day by air from Hastings to inquire into the refugee situation. Mr. Scrimgeour flew from Auckland to the earthquake region and interviewed the central relief executive at Hastings in order to find out exactly what amount and kind of help was required from Auckland, whether in tho form of billeting, clothes or money.
After visiting the refugee camp ho stated that lie would recommend the Mayor to accept tho Hastings committee's recommendation that only money should be sent. Ho left again for Hastings this afternoon with a view to visiting Wairoa if possible on his way back to-morrow and reporting on conditions there.

TRIBUTE AT MOUNT ALBERT.
At the memorial service to victims of the earthquake disaster, which was hold in St. Mary's Church, Mount Albert, yesterday, Father McGrath made feeling reference to the death of Father Gondringer, of Grccnmeadows, who was founder of the Mount Albert parish. The speaker said he had entered the stricken areas with the sense of a special duty as one who had taken over Father Gondringer's well-established parish, and had the idea of taking over temporarily, if necessary, the work of the parish in the service of which his predecessor had died. lie also went to represent the people of Mount Albert at the sad obsequies of thai/ f&ryicr priest.
