NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE.

NGARUAWAHIA STRUCTURE. COMPLETION IN FORTNIGHT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Friday. Tho new railway bridge which crosses the Waikato River at Ngaruawahia will bo completed in a fortnight. It will replace a structure which has had 55 years' service. The new bridge is 455 ft. long, and consists of three truss spans of 117 ft., supported by two sets of ferroconcrete cylinder piers and two sets of concrete land piers. A total of 255 tons of steel has been used in the superstructure, which has been designed to carry the heaviest types of engine known. A deviation in the line is being laid to connect the bridge with the permanent way. The bridge, which cost £25,000, was designed by the engineers of the Railway Department, and was built by Mr. B. V. Rope, of Auckland, it is proposed to convert the old structure into a road traffic bridge.
