FALLING OFF IN VISITORS. SCHOOL PLAYING FIELDS. [BY TKTjEOItArn.-—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA, Thursday. Although the weather over tho holidays was almost perfect, the volunio of tourists and visitors to the Domain and mineral baths has shown a marked decreaso on last year's figures. Tho hotels and boarding houses complain of tho heavy falling off in tho usual summer patronage. During tho week tho tourist grounds aro practically deserted. Tho High School ground improvement scheme, which has entailed tho formation of a football field and general playing area, is now nearing completion. Tho contractor, Mr. P. Baino, is now engaged in putting tho finishing touches to tho approach and front of tho school, which will be done before tho commencement of tho new term.
Although second growths of bracken almost hide tho pine seedlings planted on tho hillside as an early relief measure, an inspection shows that in most instances the trees have struck root. They are of a good, sturdy type, and next spring should eee them well established,.
