CHATEAU FESTIVITIES.

FANCY-DRESS BALL. The lounge of the Chateau was the scene of a. brilliant fancy dress hall recently. The ballroom was attractively decorated with coloured streamers and balloons and with special lighting effects. Many varied and beautiful costumes were worn by guests and some most original ideas were in evidence. Tito following guests acted as judges:—Mrs. Millar, of Palmerstou North, Miss Mortimore, London, Mr. Roll and Mr. Reid. They awarded the prizes as follows: —Best lady, Russian Princess, Miss James; best gentleman, Sultan, Mr. G. Gudgeon; most original lady, Marg, Miss L. Impey; most, original gentleman, "The Absentminded Beggar," Mr. E. Anscombe; best sustained character, "Over the Garden Wall," Miss R. Anscombe. A special prize was awarded for a 1931 ski-ing party tableau—Mr. and Mrs. W. Forsyth, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. B. Rickards and Mr. P. S. Allen.

Among those present, wore:—Mr. A. F. whito, who represented king of do pari eel spirits; Miss J. Millar, old English lady; Mrs. A. J. Daniel, East, of Stipz; Miss J. Daniel. Spanish lady; Mrs. D. Hanson, Queen of the Jla rein; Mr. T. Schmoll, Louis XV.; Mr. (J. Twigg, danger signal; Mrs. E. M. Whito, Black and Whito whisky Mr. I/. E. Wakeman, a monk; Miss M. C, While, a modern stoker; Miss 11. Woodrock, pierrot; Mr. A. H. Talpin, cowboy; Miss S. Smith, page hoy; Mrs. G. Rhodes, Japanese lady; Mr. J. E. Lawrence, chef; Mr. R. 11. Clay, beach dress; Miss E. Amess, Eastern lady; Miss M. Woodcock, Eastern princess. Dancing continned until well after midnight, when a number of the guests, at, the invitation of the staff of the chateau, proceeded to their dance room arid enjoyed themselves until the early hours of the morning.
