VIOLENCE IN BOMBAY.
OUTBREAKS BY HOOLIGANS. REVIEW OF THE POSITION. British Wireless. RUGBY, Jan. 6. The Government of India's review of the situation in India during the week ended January 3, referring to the recent mob violence in Bombay City, says the hooligan element continues to take an active part in demonstrations. A number of the police were injured by stonethrowing and private cars were damaged. Elaborate arrangements by the National Congress organisation to declare at their midnight meetings on December 31 in the city a resolution of independence were denounced by the authorities, and the meetings and processions were prevented without difficulty, but there were outbreaks of hooliganism, .and hostile mobs severely attacked the police picket, which was forced to open fire. Referring to Burma the report states that the rebellion in the Tharawaddy district is being brought under control and that there is no longer cause for serious concern.
