VISITING BOWLERS.

TEAM FROM AUSTRALIA. LEAVE FOR ROTORUA TO-DAY. The majority of the members of a NewSouth Wales team of bowlers who are to take part in the Dominion bowling carnival, commencing at Auckland on Monday next, arrived by the Ulimaroa. from Sydney yesterday. The manager of the team is Mr. T. Yates, and with him have come Messrs. E. Bowler, C. Barter, J. Mackie, J. Barrett, 11. Landis, C. Nicholas and M. Gulson. Four more players coming by the Niagara on Monday will join the team later. Most of the players ai'e from Sydney, but several represent country centres of New South Wales. There are a number of lady relatives with the team, only two of whom have visited tho Dominion before.

The visiting bowlers were given an official welcome yesterday morning at the Albert Hotel, where they will be quartered during their stay in Auckland. Mr. J Pascoe, president of the Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association, extended greetings from the bowlers of the Dominion, and he was supported by Mr. J. M. Thomson, president of the Auckland Centre. . For the visitors Mr. 1 ates said there would bo three rinks of players from NewSouth Wales, but the representation would have been much larger but for the prevailing economic conditions. lie did not think the members of his team would be capable of defeating the New Zealand players, who, he declared, were the best in the world. Replies to a toast offered by tho visitors were made by Mr. J. W. Hard ley, Dominion president in 1926-27, and Mi. W. Coltman, Dominion president in 1922-23. The Australians were motored to the Carlton green after lunch, and their two rinks played friendly games against teams from the Carlton Club. The lady members of the visiting party were taken for a motor drive through the city and suburbs.

The visitors are going on to Rotorua to-day and will return to Auckland on Sunday. After the Dominion tournament is over the team will travel southwards, visiting among other centres, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Wellington and Christchurch.
