AUSTRALIAN CRICKET.
NO TEAM FORy NEW ZEALAND. CONTROL BOARD'S DECISION. (Received January 1, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Jan. 1. A message from Melbourne isays New Zealanders resident in Melbourne express disappointment that no Australian cricket team is going to the Dominion this season. It is stated that a New Zealand representative had personally interviewed most of the leading players and it is believed that this action had a great deal to do with causing the Board of Control to withhold its sanction. It is felt that the proper courso would have been to first obtain the permission of the board.
Mr. Arthur Mailey, writing to the Sun, says it is hard to understand why the Board of Control declined the invitation to send an Australian team to New Zealand. A good number of the younger players had signified their willingness to make the trip and the New Zealand Council was prepared to pay all expenses. No official reason for its decision has so far been furnished by the board.
