MINISTER OF EDUCATION.

VISITS TO SCHOOLS.

TRAINING COLLEGE NEEDS. Visits to the Auckland Training - College and tho Brixton Road and Onehunga Schools were made by tho Hon. H. Atmoro, Minister of Education, yesterday. At the Brixton Road School the Minister was approached by tho committee for a grant of £SOO for the formation of a playing area, at the rear of the school. The Minister promised that consideration would bo given to tho request. After inspecting the grounds Mr. Atmoro briefly addressed the children.

At the Onohunga School the Minister was met by Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., Mr. E. Morton, Mayor of Onohunga, and members of tho school committeo. Representations wore inado for a grant of £SO and for the payment of £250 subsidy on work already undertaken. Reference was made to the fact that tho architect, Mr. J. Park, had given his services free in laying out the grounds and the Onohunga Borough Council had willingly co-operated with tho school committeo in completing the work. Afior inspecting tho grounds tho Minister paid a tribute to tho work of improvement and said every consideration would be given to the request, which seemed a reasonable one. A brief address was given by Mr. Atmoro to tho school pupils and staff, who assembled on tho grounds. The possibility of an assembly hall being provided at tho Training College was discussed by tho Minister with tho principal, Mr. D. M. Rao. Mr. Rao stressed tho need of a hall in order to completo tho collcgo buildings. In reply Mr. Atmoro said ho appreciated tho nature of tho request and ho thought tho scheme a creditable one. In such mattors a local lead was desired and if this were obtained tho schoinc would rocoivo tho support of the Education Department. Tho question of payment of the balance of monoy needed for the provision of a swimming bath at tho collcgo was also discussed. Tho Minister inspected tho grounds and expressed gratification with the many improvements rocently carried out.
