LOCAL MANUFACTURES.

appeal to retail shops*

INCREASING PUBLIC DEMAND.

MAKING WORK IN DOMINION.

A circular letter asking retailers in the city and suburbs to stock a fair range of New Zealand-made goods to satisfy an ever-increasing demand has been sent 'to shops in all parts of Auckland by the executive of the Auckland Manufacturers'.' Association.

."The demand for New Zealand-made coods is rapidly growinp and we are daily; being deluged with inquiries as to where such and such a New Zealand-made article can be purchased, or by complaints that people are unable tg obtain these goods,", states the circular. "We have also received a request from the secretary of & largo federated women's organisation for a list of the shops at which New Zealandmado goods are procurable. My executive thinks your name should be on thelist and therefore asks for the hearty cooperation and assistance which you could give by stocking a fair range of New Zealand-made goods that would satisfy tha ever-increasing demand. ' "The unemployment problem is to somfr extent responsible for the growing demam!, as the general opinion expressed by our Governors-General, the Prime Minister, the Leaders of the Opposition and Labour Parties, Cabinet Ministers, members of Parliament and prominent busii ness men, is that by purchasing New Zea-land-made goods as far as possible much! could be done to assist in solving tho problem. "The value of the importations into th® Dominion during the past seven years has. averaged £47,000,000 per annum. If these imports were reduced by fivo mil? lions and replaced by goods that can b» and are being made in 'our own country,, work could be found for practically every nnemployed worker, besides providing openings for the boys and girls leaving school. "As distributors of tha goods required by the public you have a great and glorious opportunity to assist in solving; the unemployment problem and bringing prosperity back to our Dominion and also of increasing the number of your customers."-
