NORTHCOTE BOROUGH.
HALF RATES REMISSION. The Xorthcote Borough Council met hist evening, tho Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presiding. Fourteen applications were receiver] for remission of half rates in respect of properties where the houses have been vacant for si* months in the financial year. Itwas resolved that remission would he made where compliance had been made with Section 69 of the Rating Act, 1925. The overseer was authorised to proceed with the completion of the rockery at the wharf approach toward relieving unemployment. Similar authority was given in respect to Duke Street footpath construction, when the Unemployment Board approved of the £2 for £1 subsidy. In view of the financial position, Mr. J. E. Mays, borough overseer, renewed an offer made several months ago to accept a. temporary reduction of 10s a week. This was accepted. For the convenience of strawberry growers, a request is to be made to the Devon port Ferry Company that the 7.45 a.m. vehicular boat from Birkenhead should also call at Xorthcote.
