FORMULA FOR PETROL.
FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. MAN BROUGHT FROM SYDNEY. Arrested in Sydney on a charge of false pretences, Gordon Dougald Crawford,.aged 23, salesman, was brought to Auckland on the Niagara yesterday in the custody of Detective Moore. Later in the day he appeared in the Police Court and was charged that on August 16, 1930, with intent to defraud, he obtained from Herbert Alan Steadman, as agent for the New Zealand Petrol Company, Ltd., of Auckland, £IOO by falsely representing that hp was selling to the company a certain formula and process for the manufacture of motor spirit, such formula arid process being valueless. Upon Detective-Sergeant Kelly asking for a week's remand, accused's counsel, Mr. Snedden, requested bail. The Magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt: We had to bring liiin back from Australia. Mr. Snedden: If he reports daily to the police lie is not likely to get away. The Magistrate: Very well. I will allow bail of £SOO in two sureties of £250.
