CHARGE OF THEFT.
CHEQUES WORTH LARGE SUM. ARREST OF THREE PERSONS. A charge of stealing three cheques of a total value of £321, the property of William George Harrington, was jointly preferred against Bello Field, aged 34, and Muriel Hilda Holmes, aged 31, both domestics (Mr. Clarke), and William Alfred Phillips, aged 46, labourer (Mr. Aekins), in the Polico Court yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Kelly, who asked for a week's remand, said complainant, an old man, met the accused Phillips and they went round town drinking together. Complainant had three, cheques in his possession and was taken by Phillips lb tho home of the women accused, who got tho cheques. Ono cheque was cashed for further drinks, but the others had not. been recovered. Tho women admitted having had the cheques, which they slated had been given to them and subsequently -In granting the remand, the. magistrate. .Mr. F. K. Hunt, allowed Phillips bail of £2OO and tho women accused bail of £IOO each.
