MOTOR-CAR RACING.

THE OPENING MEETING. SOME INTERESTING CONTESTS. The first motor-car race meeting of the 1930-31 season will be held under the auspices of the Auckland Automobile Racing Club at Henning's Speedway, Marigere, on Saturday, December 13. During the winter the majority of the racirg cars which competed last year have been thoroughly overhauled, and some rf them have changed hands, so that there will be a number of new drivers taking part in the forthcoming meeting. In addition to the cars which were in use last season, there will be a number of very fast new machines, some of which have not been seen in New Zealand. A special feature of the programme for the December meeting will be the Malcolm Campbell challenge race, in which it is proposed to match six of the fastest cars in tho Dominion. At this meeting a special concession will be made by the racing club to members of the Auckland Automobile Association, who will be admitted free on presentation of their membership tickets. The programme is as follows: — The George Henning Handicap, of three laps. Open to drivers who have never been placed in any motor racing event. First prize, £6; second, £3; third, £l. The Captain Birkin Handicap, of three Japs. Open to cars which cannot lap bett« -than 60 seconds. Closed cars are not eligible. First prize, £8; second, £3; third. £l. The Wizard Smith Handicap, of five Japs. Open to cars which can lap better than 65 seconds. First prize, i.10; second, £4; third, £2. The Segrave Memorial Handicap, of 10 Japs. Open to racing cars only, with a handicap limit of 70 seconds. First prize, £2O; second £7. The Malcolm Campbell special challenge race, of three laps. Open to six cars, to be selected. First prize, £6. The Kaye Don Handicap, of five laps. Open to cars with engine capacity of 1500 c.c. or less. First prize, £8: second. £4 Speedway Handicap, of three laps. Open to racing cars only. First prize £10; second, £4; third, £2.
