Mrs. R. W. Rugg, of Auckland, is visiting Christchurch.
Miss 0. Le Roy, of Auckland, is on a visit to Christchurch.
Mrs. Norman Calvert, of Auckland, is visiting Wellington and Napier.
Miss M. T. Horton has returned to Auckland after an extended visit to Great Britain.
Mrs. F. W. Yates, of Karaka, and Mrs. Eric Yates, of Remuera, have returned from a visit to Australia.
Mrs. R. H. Ellis and Mrs. N. Hunter, of Wellington, are visiting Auckland and are staying at the Star Hotel.
Mrs. A. C. L. Chudleigh, who has been spending some weeks at the Grand Vue Hotel, St. Heliers, left for England on Monday accompanied by her husband and two sons.
Another whist drive was held by the Cornish Association on Tuesday in the Orient Tea Rooms, Newmarket. The prize winners were Mrs. Fast, Mrs. Gimblet, Mrs. Love, Mrs. Tucker, Mr. MacLeay and Mr. Norris.
The sum of £75 was raised at a sale of work hold yesterday afternoon at the Kingsland Methodist Church Hall. The trust funds will benefit to that extent. The sale of work was opened by the Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr. L. E. Rhodes. The financial result is considered most satisfactory.
In order to raise funds for the district's quota to the Plunkeb Society, a committee of ladies under Mrs. F. Annandale dispensed lunch and afternoon tea at the Kumeu saleyards on Monday. The effort met with a ready response, the proceeds amounting to £4 4s.
A particularly interesting evening was spent by the literary circle of the New Zealand League of Penwomen on Tuesday when Mrs. Spinley gave an excellent paper on Arnold Bennett. Later members discussed and criticised the various works of the writer. Among those present were Misses Burton, N. L. Dash, Bertram, Peacock, Sweet, Spurling, Whitelaw, Quin, Quill, Mesdames McKinney, Richmond, Spinley and Smith.
The annual ball of tho Te Aroha post and telegraph office was held on Tuesday evening. About 700 dancers were present, and the Catholic hall was gaily decorated. Visitors were present from Hamilton, Thames, Morrinsvillc, Matamata, Cambridge, Paeroa and Waihi. The music, floor and supper arrangements were excellently carried out and tho function was one of the most successful held in Te Aroha for some years,
