POISONING SENSATION.
MANY CHILDREN ILL. ARSENIC ON COUGH DROPS. DANGEROUS POWDER FOUND. ENOUGH TO KILL 200,000. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Iloceived September 14, 5.35 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 13. Tho illness of 33 children in Cheshire was traced to arsenic-coated cough drops supplied by a factory in Staffordshire. Detectives liavo now inado an amazing discovery in a workshop at Tunstnll in that county. Buried under a heap of rubbish beneath a staircase they found a box containing 561b. of arsenic—sufficient to kill 200,000 people.
Tho health officer for the district expresses tho opinion that there is no doubt this was the sourco of supply of tho powdor with which tho sweets concerned were dusted in tho factory. He said tho occupier had obtained tho powder from n man now in America. He did not know it was arsenic.
At least 17 bottles of the sweets are known to have been consumed and efforts aro being mado to trace 12 others. Many more children have suffered in different localities.
