DAMAGE BY FIRE.
OUTBREAKS IN THE SUBURBS. NO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. The Remuera Fire Brigade was called to three small outbreaks of fire in houses on Saturday. In each case the alarm was given early and only very slight damage was caused.
Shortly after 11 a.m. tho brigade was summoned to a house at 54, Armadale Road, Remuera, owned by Dr. J. Holdsworth, and occupied by Mrs. E. J. Adams. Clothing which had been left near the kitchen range was alight, but was extinguished before tho flames had spread to tho room. At 6.30 run. a chimney fire was responsible for the brigade attending a liouso at 25, Golf Road, One Tree Hill, occupied by Mr. W. 11. Tingev, while an hour later the firemen were called to a new house at 39a, St. Andrew's Road, Epsom, occupied by Mr. T. S. Hickey, where shavings and rubbish under the house had caught alight.
On Saturday afternoon a small outbreak occurred in tho wash-house of a douhlestoreved houso at 78, View Road, Mount Eden. The houso was empty at the time, and new tenants were moving in. A fire had been lit under tho copper and this ignited the adjacent flooring. The Mount Eden brigade extinguished the fire, which L'uitsod only slight damage. Tho fusing of an electric cable caused a firo under tho footpath in Wakefield Street shortly after 7 o'clock on Saturday evening. Thero was no damage to property, tho firo being easily suppressed by tho city brigado.
