NORTHAMPTON MATCH. VISITORS' FIRST INNINGS. SMALLEST SCORE OF TOUR. FORCED TO FOLLOW ON. \ By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, August 11. The Australian cricketers to-day continued their match against Northamptonshire at Northampton. When stumps were drawn on Saturday the county eleven had been disposed of for 249 runs in their first innings. The Australians opened their innings at 12.15 p.m., and against the weak county team were all out for 93 runs, the smallest total of the tour, and had to follow on. Rain had affected the wicket. Jackson's chance of inclusion in the last test match team was dimmed by his cheap dismissal when he returned the bowler an easy catch. The first wicket fell at 14. Bradman started delightfully, but afterwards was uncomfortable lacing Jupp. In 70 minutes' play before luncheon 48 runs were scored. With the addition of only 11 runs Jupp sent back Woodfull, Bradman and Fairfax. Fairfax batted for half an hour for one run. Kippjix and Richardson were also unhappy, and at 65 Kippax had his wicket shattered. Richardson luckily lasted for 40 minutes.
The tail eud batsmen offered no resistance, and as Australia were 156 behind they were forced to follow-on for the first time during this tour. Nine wickets had fallen after luncheon for 45 runs. Woodfull and Jackson opened the second innings at 4.35 'p.m., when the wicket was easier. Richardson ran for Jackson, whose injured ankle had given way. His batting was not affected, however, for ho hit cleanly all round the wicket. Jupp again worried the batsmen, but received little assistance from the pitch. The pair scored freely. Jackson's graceful score of 50 occupied 100 minutes. Soon after he was again caught and bowled, and Hurwood played out time. Details of the scores are as follows:--NORTHAMPTONSHIRE.
