TOWN-PLANNING MAP.

ZONING IN MOUNT EDEN. ' DEFINITE DECISION V/ANTED. A definite decision by the Mount Eden Borough Council for the residential and commercial zoning of Mount Eden Road to enable him to complete the town-plan-ning map of the borough was sought by the engineer, Mr, J. Tiogers, at a meeting of the council la:;t evening. Mr. Rogers said his previous report on the subject, adopted in October, 1928, provided for the zoning of various blocks along Mount Eden Road for residential purposes only. On several occasions during the past 12 months buildings had been sanctioned in contravention of the report. The report provided for the residential zoning of the following frontages .-—West side: Point Street to Valley Road. Gordon Road to Fairview lload, Balmoral Road to Royco Avenue and Slwckieton Road to Landscape Road, bast side: H>Uv side Crescent to Oaklands J'Mad Street to Pencarrow Avenue and Balmoial Road to Landscape Road. The Mayor, Mr. L. H. loiter, said it had been decided that from Normanby Road to Valley Road should be reserved as a residential area, and that front \ ahey Road to Landscape Road should be tlio commercial area. ... Mr. J. M. Melville said the matter should be defined until : the proposed amendments to the Act had been brought forward. It would only be dangerous to go ahead immediately " Wo have to be ijuite definite," said Mr. Potter. " When building permits are asked for we must be in a position to say where and where not shops may be built. Any objections can be brought before the Town-planning Board." Mr. Melville said the compensation clauses in the present Act were highly dangerous to the residents of the district. They suggested openings for numerous claims right away. "We must uphold our previous do- . cision," saicl Mr. Potter. The matter was referred to the Work 3 Committee to report to the next meeting of the council
