RATES IN ARREARS.

TOWN BOARD'S PROBLEM. DISCUSSION AT PAPAKURA. " There should be some system introduced of collecting rates by monthly instalments, as the average ratepayer finds it a hard task to pay his rates in a lump sum," said Mr. H. -*E. McEntee at a meeting of the Papakura' Town Board last evening, when the question of rates in arrears came before the board in the finance committee's report. The chairman, Mr. James McCall, had pointed out that 'here should be some movement toward collection, as there was now about £I3OO outstanding in rates arrears. The matter w«s deferred for further consideration. The Works Committee reported that during the last fortnight the workmen had concentrated on repair work of the shoulders on footpaths of the Great South Road. Residents of Dominion Road forwarded a petition regarding the bad state of' the road and the board decided to carry out some repair work there.
