USEFUL TASKS EXECUTED. HUNTERS JUMP COUNTRY. The r>ost interesting featura of the training operations at Ellerslio yesterday was a good exhibition of jumping over the steeplechase lencos by Odin. Scaramouche, Freyja and Absent. The other work Accomplished was mostly of the useful order and the hcrses who were allowed to run along on tho No. 3 crass wore not looking for time. Details of the work are:— NO. 3 GRASS. Principal strode over four furlongs at threequarter pace and Eager Hose went six furlongs in 1.23. Eager Roso is in nice order to go ahead with a preparation and should come to hand quickly. Subeditor and Diznrro covered six furlongs in 1.25 1-5. Subeditor is carrying a very bright appearance and may provo useful in hack company in the new season, *■ Wold Country and Thunderstorm ran fivo furlongs in 1.9 1-5, while Maori Boy strodo along for seven furlongs in 1.50. Great Emblem and Informant reeled off threo furlongs in 40 3-ss. Great Emblem has wintered nicely and should make further progress in tho next few months. Milvano and Operatic strode over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Operatic is well forward and may lot<o his maiden status early in tho new season. His form in the autumn was very encouraging
Day Form and Lady's Boy went four furlongs in 55 2-53. Lady's Boy is moving with more freedom than ho has done for some time and T. Davison may. yot succeed in getting him back to form. THE JUMPERS. A good exhibition of jumping was provided by Odin (L. Dulieu), Scaramoucho (J. Preston), Freyja (J. Burgess) and Absent (D. Craddock). who went once round tho steeplechase fences. Easily tho best display was given by Odin, who led throughout, but the others also jumped well, Scaramouche and Absent both showing improvement. VICTORIAN RACING. AUSTRALIAN HURDLES. ARRIVAL AT SYDNEY. (Received July 29, 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY. July 29. Nine prominent New Zealand horses, including Limerick, Paquito, Gay Crest and Arikiwai, arrived at Sydney to-day in good condition. Tho Federal Government's new primage duty of 2! per cent, was enforced for tho first time. This will be refunded if the horses are sent homo within bix Inonths.
