CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
ADDRESS BY DR. E. P. NEALE

Tho annual meeting of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce was held las*, evening. Mr. N. M. Keane, president, who was in the chair, said tho past year had been somewhat disappointing owing to the lnck of interest shown by the members in the business of tho chamber. The report and balance-sheet was adopted. The following executive were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. R. P. Spedding; vice-presidents, Messrs. B. Cumming and N. M. Keane; committee, M essrs. J. M. Roberts and A. Walden; treasurer, Mr. A. Smith; secretary, Mr. W. M. Ashton; auditor, Mr. L. C. Ryan. Dr. E. P. Neale, secretary of the Auckland chamber, who was invited by the president to speak, said much good could be done by the united efforts of business men, whereas individual efforts often failed. Touching on the unemployment problem, he said the opinion of his body was in favour of the settlement of tho land. They considered that this was tho panacea for unemployment.
The interests of town and country were interwoven and it. was a wise thing to foster good feeling between town and country. He believed that money spent in developing the tourist traffic was a good proposition. He concluded by delivering a message of friendship from his chamber.
