BUTTER PRICES HIGHER
LONDON RATES ADVANCE.
BEST QUALITY 138s TO 140s
VALUES FOR CHEESE INCREASE
Cabled reports from London indicate that more favourable factors are again operating in the. dairy produce market, which is stronger in tone. After holding for some weeks at 136s a cut., the top price for New Zealand finest has advanced to 138s, which is being secured for freshly landed supplies, while, for exceptionally good quality, up to 140s is quoted,
Last week's messages reported the market for Now Zealand butter to bo slow, with choicest quoted at 134s to 1365, but cablegrams despatched from London on Thursday indicate, that the demand has improved and the market is firm at the advanced rates. In the case of the best quality the new price represents a rise of 4.s during the week. An improvement of 3s is also recorded for cheese. The latest quotation for white is 79s to 80s, as against 76s to 77s last week, and for coloured, 82s to 84.5, against 81s to 82s last week. r I ho market is reported to bo quieter at the higher prices, although some merchants' reports state the market remains steady.
