TO KEEP DOORS FROM STICKING.
The tops and bottoms of doors are usually not painted or vanished, because they do not show. These hidden edges, if not painted are vulnerable points where tho wood absorbs or loses moisture lapidly, especially at the ends of tho outside uprights where the, wood grain is exposed. It they arc painted, the moisture is kept out arid the wood does riot swell so much.
