AMERICAN CLOTH CURTAINS

There is a delightful air of freshness and simplicity about tho furnishing of I he new wing that Lord and Lady Lrleigh have just added to their lovely old country cottago in Sussox. writes an Englishwoman. lwo of the most attractive rooms belong to Lord Lrleigh, who proves that men appreciate modern decoration quito as much as women

Smoke-grey walls innocent of shading nr pictures, curtains of lemon yellow and grey silk voilo in a, cubist design, are combined with hand-woven rugs in the same shade in Lord Erleigb's study. The armchairs are upholstered in ono of the new tweedy-looking materials in shades of grey and beige, and arc piped with brown American cloth. More hand-woven rugs, this time of the new shade of red known as sig-nal-box, spotted with white, appear in Lord Erleigb's bedroom, which has white walls and ceiling, curtains of red American cloth, and an amusing dressing-tablo and chairs of chromium plate and wood covered with American cloth, the table having also glass ■egs. All-white walls and ceiling havo also been Lady Erleigb's choice, while her curtains are of several shades of green and grey and the white bedhead has green designs on it. Lime yellow walls make the drawing room a striking room, and the striped voilo curtains in two shades of pink have their counterpart in hand-woven rugs. For bridge Lady Erleigh has chosen small chairs of birch wood upholstered in lime yellow and a big sofa to match is built into the wall and has bookshelves on two sides of it, so that the lazy have not far to seek for literature.

Little round tables of birch wood aro supported on glass pillars.
