FUND FOR EDUCATION.
RAILWAY MAGNATE'S PLAN. EXPENDITURE OF £2,000,000. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received July 24, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON. July 24. Interest has been aroused by an announcement that Mr. Edward Harkness, an American railway magnate of Scottish descent, proposes to devote a large sum of money to educational and social work in Britain. The amount Mr. Harkness will spend in this way is understood in Parliamentary circles to be at least £2,000,000. Tho Leader of the Conservatives, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, possibly will be a member of the committee which is to recommend outlets for the fund. However, nothing is likely to be decided hastily.
GENEROUS RAJAH. DISPOSAL OF £IOO,OOO. CIVIL SERVANTS' CHILDREN. (Received July 24, 5.35 p.m.) British Wireless. RUGBY, July 23. The Rajah of Sarawak has decided that the unallocated balance, amounting to £25,000, of his gift of £IOO,OOO to the British Government shall be offered to the Imperial Forestry Institute. The main portion of tho gift is to bo used as a fund t.o assist in the education of children of colonial civil servants.
