The rising three-year-old Sleipner in 11. purse's team at Riccarton has made marked improvement during the winter. Our Christchurch correspondent states that Sleipner should lie a high-class performer in the new season.

Several of the acceptors for tho Grand National Hurdles may bo runners in the Trial Hurdles, which is run on tho first day of the Canterbuy Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting. Thoso entered for tho Trial include Apache, Zippor, Mountain Guide and Llyn Dhu.

With the tracks on tho soft side after overnight rain, there was practically no work of interest at. Ellerslio yesterday, when most of the horses were restricted to steady pricing. Freyja (Burgess), About (Craddockh and Twinkler (Garrett) were sent over tho steeplechase fences on the fiat twice, all shaping well.

After a spell Taneriri is being pottered about preparatory to receiving ;i preparation for Hpring racing. Ono of his hind joints is fdightly enlarged at present and ho will probably not bo worked ecriously until the swelling disappears. Taneriri is very bright after his holiday and (should win more races when bo strikes form again.

Tho rising three-ycar-old Manawhenua is working regularly at Kllerslio nnd should bo well forward v. hen tho spring meetings arrive. Ho far Mansuvhenua b;!3 not lived up to tho promise ho gave in his early gullops, but there is yet fimo for him to improve. For tho past couple of seasons Coriliax has been ft good winner for J. Williamson, and, although he is well up in tho weights at present,, there is 110 reason why he ehould not again do well in the new season.

.1. E. Thorpe's rising two-year-old Golden Spain (Csitmint--holoma), has been on tho easy list for about a fortnight with a colli, but he is recovering and v. ill probably resume work shortly.
