LOOKING FOR HUSBANDS.
TWO BRITISH GIRLS.
LETTERS TO NEW ZEALAND
By a remarkable coincidence the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. J. K. Archer, 011 opening his mail last Friday, found two letters from girls in Great Britain who wish to meet young New Zealand men, presumably with a view to matrimony. The first letter opened is from a girl in tho south of England, who wrote as follows: —"I hope you will pardon the liberty of writing to you, but 1 wondered if you could introduce me to some nice male companion, as 1 am shortly coming out to New Zealand as a domestic under tho Salvation Army assisted passage by the New Zealand Government. I hope to sail either in August or September of this year, and it would be so nice to have a friend whom one could trust, being so far from all friends. My age is 21 years. I am tall, fair, blue eyes, medium build, Church of England, and I have been in my present situation four and a-half years. 1 hope to get a situation in Christchurch. Thanking you for any trouble 1 may havo given you." Ihe other letter is from a gii), 23 years °f age, in Monmouthshire, who wishes to correspond with a farmer. She does not stale whether she is coming to NewZealand in the near future, but savs that she has always wanted to be a farmer's wile, and lias no chance uf meeting eligible young farmers in the town where she. is living.
Mr. Archer remarked that it was extraordinary that he should receive two such letters on the. same day. He said he hoped he would bo able to find satisfactory replies to both applicants.
