FEWER SCARLET FEVER CASES

A considerable decrease in the number of cases of infectious diseases reported to the Health Department, from the four health districts in the Auckland Province was registered during June, the total, 365, being 6b below that for .May and 104 below the total in April. Only 80 cases were reported in the Central Auckland district, compared with 151 in the preceding month. In North Auckland the numbers showed a small decline, but, the South Auckland and Thames Tauranga districts showed slight increases. Scarlet fever was again the most prevalent diseaso, but the 54 cases reported by the medical officers of lien 1111 in Ihe four districts were 36 below the May figure and 39 fewer than in March. The number of cases of tuberculosis fell from 31 to 25. The cases of diphtheria reported totalled 21, compared with 43 in May and 46 in April. Tho following 80 cases were reported by Dr. T. J. Hughes in the Auckland Central district.: —Scirlet fe\cr, 21, diphtheria, 8; enteric fever, 2; tuberculosis, 18; meningitis, 2; pneumonic influenza, 2; pneumonia, 32; erysipelas, < ; puerperal fever, 6; dysentery, 2. The 49 cases reported by Dr. J. Boyd in the South Auckland district comprised the following Scarlet fever. 18; diphtheria, 10; enteric fever, 3; tuberculosis, 4; psliomyelitis, 1, pneumonia, 7; erysipelas, 2; puerperal fever, 2; eclampsia, 1; dysentery, 1. In the North Auckland district Hi. 11. Chcssou reported the following 22 cases. Scarlet fever, 6; diphtheria. 2: enteric fever, 1; tuberculosis, 3; pneumonia, 4; erysipelas, 2; puerperal fever. 2; eclampsia, 1; ophthalmia neonatorum, 1. Dr. Chesson also reported the following 14 cases in the Tliames-Tanranga. district: —'Scarlet fever, 9; diphtheria, .1 ; enteric fever, 1; pneumonia, 2; erysipelas, 1.
