MORE DAYLIGHT SAVING.

EFFECT ON POWER SUPPLIES. WAITEMATA BOARD'S SUPPORT. The desirability of introducing daylight saving earlier in the year to reduce the. demand on the restricted supplies of elec-tric-power caused by the closing of Arapuni was discussed at, a meeting of the. Waitemata Electric-Power Board vestetday. A recommendation was made by the General Purposes Committee that the board should support the principle advanced at recent conferences of electricpower boards that ono hour s daylight saving lie brought into force on August 1. Mr. 11. A. Robertson, in asking that his protest should he recorded if the recommendation were adopted, said the country districts would be adversely affected bv the scheme.

Algie supported the proposal, and Mr. M. E. Thompson spoke in favour of the amendment. The chairman, Mr. G. Trevithiclr, said the purpose of the proposal was to split tho tram and shop load in Auckland and allow the Auckland Electric-Power Board to feed back the supply to farmers. The suggestion had been made by the Post-master-General, the Hon. .1, R. Donald, and vonld be considered by Parliament. The scheme aimed solely at helping the farming community. The amendment was lost by a large majority. A second amendment, moved by Mr. Robertson and seconded by Mr. Greenslade, that the principle of adopting daylight saving from August. 1 without stipulating to what extent, the clock should be advanced be confirmed was also lost. The recommendation of the General Purposes Committee wan adopted.
