NEW DAIRYING RECORD.

AUCKLAND'S GREAT YIELD

OUTPUT FOR PAST SEASON.

OFFSET TO LOWER PRICES.

INCREASED CASH RETURNS. The 1929-30 dairying year in the Auckland Province, which ended on June 30, gave not only a new record in production of butter-fat but a margin sufficient to offset the lower range of prices on the London market and leave a small surplus. The season's yield was 129,300,0001b. of butter-fat, an increase of qver 19.000,0001b on the previous record year of 1928-29. Production just topped the 100,000,0001b. mark in 1926-27, when the output was 101,446,0001b. In four years, therefore, the yield has increased by 28.44 per cent-. Based on an average pay-out of Is 4gd, the yield of the 1928-29 season was worth to the province approximately £7,697,000. A forecast earlier in the year that the average payout for the season which has just ended would be in the vicinity of Is 3d per lb. is borne out by the annual reports of several representative dairy companies and, on this basis, the output for 1929-30 will return approximately £8,081,000, or £384,000 more than the gross return for 1928-29. Increases in Recent Years. The progressive increases in the production of the province during the past five years are shown in the following table: — Output. Year. lbs. Butter-fat. 1925-2G 83,439.000 1926-27 . . w , . . 101.440.000 1927-28 100.369.000 1928-29 110,288.000 1929-30 . . .. k . 129,300.000 The season opened with production on a slightly lower level than that of the previous year, but with the arrival of warmer weather in September the yield began to soar. October's output was nearly 3,000,0001b. greater than that of October, 1928, and there was a similar margin between the outputs of December, 1929, and 1928. The favourable nature of last autumn is reflected in the fact that the seasonal decline was not so marked as was the case last year and that, in each month up to June, the yield was greater than that of the corresponding months of 1929. The latest statistics, those for June, show that the usual big decline for that month has been experienced, the production being only 1,777,0001b. of butter-fat, against 5,613,0001b. in May and 9,927,0001b. in April. Compared with June last year, last month's output was 228,0001b. greater. Monthly Production Figures.

The following table shows the details of the production of butter and cheese in the Auckland Province in terms of pounds of butter-fat for the twelve months of the season, compared with the corresponding periods of the preceding season:—

The preponderance of the butter-making aspect of the industry in the province is revealed by the fact that from the season's yiold of butter-fat approximately 1,285,000cwt. of butter were made, against 294,000cwt. of cheese. Figures relating to the quantities of butter and cheese in store at Auckland at the end of June are:—Butter. 75,651cwt.; cheese, 29,306cwt. The Dominion figures at the same date were:— Butter, 140,780cwt.; cheese, 174,024cwt.
