GERMANY AND OTAGO.
COUNCIL AGREES TO PROPOSAL.

The Otago University Council to-day discussed a letter which Professor J. R. Elder had received from Dr. Klaus Mehnert, requesting consideration of an exchange of students between the Otago University and the German universities.
It was stated matter had been discussed at the student service conference in Geneva. The University of New Zealand also wrote in connection with the matter.
' The chairman, Mr. W. J. Morrell, suggested that the council might fall in with the arrangement to the extent^of remitting tho fees of one German student a year. That, ho considered, would -be a fitting recognition of the comity of university life. The arrangement would, of course, bo dependent upon reciprocal concessions in Germany. Tho council agreed (o the adoption of such a course.
