RECORD WIRELESS! FEAT.
VOICE TRAVELS 17,0'30 MILES. RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND. The record wireless feat cf hearing his own voico al'ler it had traversed tho world, was accomplished by "ho announcer at. station W2XAD, Schenectady, New York State, at 10.13 a.m. yesterday, American daylight saving time. The corresponding New Zealand time was about 11.45 last evening. Tho American station told Station PCJ, Holland, to relay his speech. Holland notified a Java station, and Java advised station 2ME, Sydney. The speaker's voice then travelled across the world via tho chain of stations, being picked up again at tho American station. Tho speaker said it was th-5 firs; time a voico had travelled round tho globe, and that tho reception of his own voice sounded liko an echo.
From Schenectady the broadcar.i tra,veiled about 3000 miles to Holland, from Holland to Java, about 5000 miles, from Java to Sydney about 30C0 miles, and from Sydney to Schenectady about 6000 miles, making an approximate total distance of 17,000 miles.
Reception in Auckland of the four short-wave stations w£-s very good. The Schenectady and Sydney stations were heard ou loud volume., while Holland and Java were :fairly distinct.. Conditions for short-wave reception in Auckland were more favourable than these for the Kingfiford Smith broadca.nl, by W2XAD and 2ME last Saturday evening.
