SMALL INCREASE PROPOSED.

Tho rates proposed to be struck at Northcote for tho current year amount to 9d in the pound on the unimproved value. This is tjd more than was levied last year. In addition tho suggested water consumers rate is sd, an advance of £d over last year's levy. Including water, tho aggregate rates are to be 9-Jd, which is §d in the pound more than has been collected during tho past three years. A sanitation charge of £2 12s for each of tho 25 services outsido the drainage area is to bo collected. The annual charge of 2s is to continue for tho monthly removal of dry rubbish. Tho rate over the whole borough is 5.8750 d in the pound, of which 3.0234 d is for interest and sinking fund payments on various loans and 2.8516 d for general purposes. The balance of 3.125 dis levied on portion of the borough only and is for interest and sinking fund on the sewerage loans. In the general account the estimated expenditure includes administration, £1010; hospital levy, £768; Auckland War Memorial Museum levy, £6O; street lighting, £312; fire brigade, £200; health inspection, £56; reserves, £174; main highways maintenance, £2663; and street maintenance, £2600.
