Considerable opposition to tho derision of the Woodlands Swamp Amalgamation Committee to ask theXJovernor-General to constituiie the Taupiri drainage district in accordance with tho terms of tho Taupiri Drainage and River District Act • has been aroused in the area.
Several meetings have been convened this week to discuss the matter. At a meeting held at Taupiri, it was decided to ask the Minister of Internal Affairs to withhold his consent to the constitution of the district until provision had been made for a .vote of ratepayers to be taken on the matter.
