WINTER EXHIBITION.
SPLENDID ENTRIES,RECEIVED ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE 1 SHOW INNOVATIONS IN DISPLAY* Preparations arc now well in hand for the Auckland Winter Exhibition, which will be hold in the Central Wharf sheds from July 9to 19. Entries in the major proportion of classes closed on Friday evening, and although the- exact figures were not available on Saturday, it was evident that last year's total had been considerably exceeded. An elaborate "front - door" has been erected for the exhibtion, and this should provide an imposing entrance. Numbers of palms will be used to decorate the forecourt, in which it is hoped to create ah entirely "new atmosphere. Entries have been received from as far afield as Melbourne, and there is every indication that the quality of the exhibits will be in keeping with tho best previous standards. Applications for space by merchants and manufacturers have been numerous and attractive displays are promised. Innovations in the livestock and home industries sections -will tend to give greater variety to the exhibition. This year the committee has made an effort to sustain interest by providing for the changing of .exhibits from time to time, and it has now been arranged that the ordinary cooking entries will be on display for the first four days. They will be followed for the next two days by a display of cakes cooked by gas, and these will be succeoded for the last four days by exhibits 6f bread. , In the home industries section a special class has been created for cooking competitions,,; for which ten .gas stoves are being 'provided. There, will be classes for "primary and secondary school pupils, as well as for adults. In .addition, there .will be competitive cooking demonstrations by master bakers. A new feature this year will be the New Zealand championship for the best commercial loaf of bread in the show. ! . , .' ■ In. the livestock section .exhibits will give place to others as the exhibition advances. Altogether there will be five changes of exhibits in ' this section, so that no animal will be kept on show for more than two days. The first four days will be devoted to the Kennel Club's Show, and that will, be followed , by an exhibition of poultry. Poultry, pigeons and canarien will be on show for. two days, and i:ommercial rabbits for the same time. ; 1 An additional attraction for the last four days will be an exhibition of pedigree dairy cattle with high butter-fat production records. Representatives of the different breed societies will be in attendance to explain the points of the cattle.
