TARANAK! BEATS WANGANUI. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, Saturday. _ The weather was ideal for the representative match. Play had been in progress only five minutes when a mull by Thompson, the local fullback near tho Wanganui lino let the visiting forwards over, Robinson scoring. Guy failed with the kick from near the touch line. A good kick by Delves from a penalty equalised the scoro after fifteen miuutes' play. The visiting backs started a splendid passing rush, a wonderful diving tackle by Thompson saving what looked a certain try. Taranaki secured from a scrum near the lino and Gudgeon dived through a gap to scoro. The kick failed. Taranaki was frequently penalised for scrum infringements. Lowo made several splendid openings and Wanganui boat the visitors back to within their own twenty-five, where Duncan secured and tho rush was carried on to the visiting fullback, whose kick was weak. The Taranaki B representatives beat Wanganui B by a one-point margin, the score being 65. For a representative game play was indifferent and patches of brightness were few and far between. It was mostly a forward struggle. In the first Bpell Taranaki had a 3-points lead, but in tho second it seemed as though Wanganui would gain the ascendency. After overrunning the Taranaki forwards for 20 minutes, however, thoy faded nut, and in the final stages had to maintain a solid defence. Play soon went to the visitors' twenty-five, whero Cameron had an unsuccessful penalty shot. Spectacular play was witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd. Tho Te Puke pack dominated play, but Dobson. Hingston and Davies. in tho Rotorua backs, played a great defensive game. From offside by 'Taiapa (Rotorua) Dare kicked a goal frmn the twenty-five, and half-time sounded with the score:—Te Puke. 3; Rotorua, 0. In splendid weather and before a large crowd the Opotiki senior Rugby representatives decisively defeated the Apanui representatives this afternoon by 22 points to 3. Opotiki opened the scoro after good play by Harriman. Morton and Anioamo, Morton finishing a good run by touching down. Hunt converted. T.
