Mrs. John F. Casper, of Washington, U.S.A., is visiting Auckland, and is staying at tlio Grand Hotel. /
Mrs. Gore Martin and her daughter, of Auckland, aro at present staying in London, but in Juno they will visit friends in Somersetshire and Gloucestershire, .and later they will go to the Continent, writes out London correspondent on May 22.
The Methodist Mission Hall, Airedale Street, presented a very busy appearanco on Thursday, when the Thames Girls' Club held a jumble salo to rniso funds to send to the Women's Organsiation at Thames: This body has undertaken to restore to order tlio Tararu cemetery, whoro several of the old .Thames pioneers are laid to rest. The salo was a liugo success, and the workers were very pleased to be able to donate a substantial sum for such a worthy cause.
A social and dance was held at the Akarana Yacht Clubhouse on Thursday evening by the staff of Heard's, Ltd. The occasion was to mark the departure of the principal of tho firm, Mr. ,L. Heard, for a trip to America. A presentation of "a travelling rug was mado to the guest of honour by the staff. About 300 guests were present, and the musical items, games, and dancing wero greatly enjoyed. Mrs. L. Heard attended the function with licr husband, and wore a frock of navy blue georgette.
On Wednesday evening, at the Druids' Hall, Newton, the Thames Girls' Club entertained a large number of members and friends at an At Home. The ball was decorated with multi-coloured streamers and lanterns, and tho stage with the club's banners and colours. Excellent dance music was provided by Morrow's orchestra. Tho committeo ladies present wero: Mrs. P. McGregor (president), Miss N. Surman (secretary), Miss J. Aitken (treasurer), Mrs. Hutchinson, Mrs. Clarke, Mrs. Hubber, Mrs. Aitken, Mrs. C-ordes, Mrs. Gribble, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Mclntyre, Mrs. McPherson, Mrs. Davison, Mrs. Nicholls, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Stubbing, Mrs. Culpitt.
Mrs. A. I. Fraer, of Christchurcli. Dominion president of the National Council of Women, announced on Thursday that the following New Zealand delegates would be attending the Pan-Pacific Women's Conference, to-be held at Honolulu from August 9 to 23:—Miss Jean Cegg (director of social service and project leader), Mrs. Mona Osborne, M.A., Gisborno, Miss M. E. Sims, M.A. (secondary and university education); Miss Elsie Andrews (primary education); Mrs. Lee Cowie (social scrvico); "Miss E. IJ. Rainsforth, M.A. (education); Miss Hull (pre-school education); Miss Lambic, of the Public Health Department, has prepared a most valuable -paper on public health, which has been forwarded to Honolulu. Unfortunately she is not able to go herself to present it.
